Sleeping After Yoga

by Laxmi
(Hyderabad)

Hello

Can we sleep immediately after doing yoga? Please answer me.

Answer

You can sleep immediately after doing yoga. However keep these things in mind.

1. If you are doing yoga in the morning, take adequate rest in shavasana after your yoga practice. Do not sleep while doing shavasana. Once you have taken rest in shavasana, you can sleep straightaway if you like.

2. If you are doing yoga in the evening:
~ Do not do yoga if you are too tired. Instead do shava asanas and go to sleep.
~ You can sleep immediately after yoga practice if you do not want to eat anything before sleeping. But if you want to have meals in the time between your yoga practice and sleeping, you have to wait for an hour before eating your meals and then at least an hour for food to digest.

Hope this helps. Wishing you sound sleep!!

Yoga in morning !! Need Help
by: Anonymous

Hi,

My family is insisting me to Join Yoga classes. Am working in 5.30 P.M to 2.30 A.M shift. I reach home by around 3.30 A.M. usually I sleep by 5 A.M. But the thing is I only have morning classes by 6.30 A.M to 8 A.M. When I go to yoga classes, I feel more tense because of tiredness and lack of sleep. I told them I will go on weekend classes, but they are pushing me to go in morning. Kindly suggest me the best way to go for it. I am going to show your response to them to make them understand my trouble.

Thanks,
Jeeva

Editors Note
It is not recommended to do yoga when you are too tired. You may learn yoga in weekend classes and gradually build up your home practice.

Hope this helps

Can I Eat After Yoga
by: Anonymous

Hello

I am 26 year old female and working in night shift. My shift timing is from 06:30 PM to 03:30 A.M. I reach home at 4:45 A.M. After 15 minutes rest I go for 10 min walk and start doing basic beginners yoga. After yoga, I take 5 minutes break and then I eat and go for sleep. My weight is 45 Kg and height is 5.4. Looking so thin. Suggest me whether I am going in a right way.

Editors Note

With your schedule there are two options, either to do yoga just after reaching home or do yoga after taking minimum 7 to 8 hours of sleep.

You can carry on with doing yoga after reaching home provided your energy level is good and you are not too tired. It is not advisable to eat immediately after doing yoga and then going to sleep. Your sleep will be disturbed and also digestive system will be taxed. You can take a light meal around midnight or healthy snacks, nuts around 1 A:M so that you do not feel hungry while doing yoga.

After coming home, do yoga. At the end of yoga practice do a long shavasana and now you will be ready to enjoy a sound sleep.

You are going the right way. In addition to yoga practice, eat healthy, stay relaxed and sleep well.

Hope this helps. Please do share your experience if you benefit from these suggestions.

Warm regards
Daljit

Your query does not provide your complete daily routine. However, you can plan for at least six hours after you get home. Thereafter do yoga on empty stomach.
