Drinking Water Before Pranayama

Hello, I am Poonam. First of all, I want to tell that your website is very very helpful. I would like to ask a question regarding pranayama. Is it ok to drink water before pranayama because I have a habit of drinking water of 2 glasses in the morning. I drink water and then after two minutes I start doing pranayama. Is it ok or do I have to include a gap between water and pranayama. I'll be thankful for your response.

Hello Poonam, thanks for your kind words. I am glad that you found the information on this site to be useful.

Pranayama should be done on empty stomach. Ideally you should do pranayama at least 30 minutes after drinking water. I suggest you drink your water as soon as you get up, then clear your bowels and freshen up for yoga. Some people even take a bath before yoga (not mandatory, depends on personal choice)

In hot weather, if you are too thirsty you can drink half a cup of water before starting pranayama.

Timing of pranayama

Thanks for running such nice website. I have a question. Once I get up in morning I drink around 4 glasses ( close to 1-liter) of water, then after how much time I should do Pranayama. Will Prayama help me to concentrate in my work ?

After drinking water, you may wait for 30-40 minutes before doing pranayama. Yes pranayama will help you to focus better.

Already I do yoga for the last 5 years not continuouly but 2 or 4 days gap. Now I will do yoga regularly but this time, I feel some complication like BP, Heartburn, diarrhea etc so pls suggest continue do yoga or not?

Yoga is meant to improve your health. If yoga practice leads to BP, Heartburn, diarrhea etc, stop your yoga practice and consult your doctor.

Doubt Regarding Yoga

Hello,

I have to lose weight around 10kg. I drink distilled cow urine with water in the morning. I do Surya Namaskar 12 times then I do Kapalbhati , Anulom Vilom and Bhramari pranayama. Kindly advise me the steps of doing these. Should I drink cow urine before doing surya namaskar and pranayama? Kindly explain the whole system of doing this daily. After how long of doing this should I have breakfast and bath.

I am not sure about distilled cow urine, but I guess you are taking it empty stomach. Thereafter clear your bowels, take bath and do yoga in the sequence

After yoga eat your breakfast about 20-30 minutes after doing yoga.

Hello Daljit

Your website is very helpful for me as I come to know very much about yoga and it prove very helpful to me but I have a question. I am suffering from constipation so I wake up at 4 PM, do kapalabhati for 2 min because I am unable to repeat it for 5 or 10 mins then after half an hour I drink two glass of water and after 10 mins I do stretching exercises like stretching my hand and legs. So please tell me is it ok for me?

I have menstrual problem like abdomen swollen due to which I feel pain in my abdomen while doing kapalabhati. Kindly give me some best tips so I can get rid of constipation and belly fat.

You must stop doing kapalabhati as it cause you pain. It is ok to drink water and do some stretching exercises.

Have you learned to do yoga poses or pranayama? It is best to learn yoga in a class and then you can do yoga at home. In case you have further queries you can contact me.
