Stammering And Yoga

I am 24 male working in office. Whenever my team leader calls my name, my heart beat starts beating fast though I have not done anything wrong. And if I am right still I can not explain him the situation. I can not speak words properly, no clarity in speaking.


Answer

It is assumed that you must have already consulted your doctor and there is no anatomical problems associated with your speech. You must visit a speech therapist for expert advice. In addition, you can consult a yoga teacher as yoga can help you with better neuro muscular co-ordination and will result in following benefits:

~ Complete relaxation of the body.
~ Better mind body co-ordination through yoga asanas and pranayama.
~ Removal of negative emotions.
~ Increase in self awareness.

You will need strong will power to succeed. You must not keep thinking about failure. Do you stammer always or when under stress or in a hurry? Is your speech normal at times and stammering is there when you are under stress? Each one of us can experience moments in life when our voice fails us during intense emotions. Do not worry much about what others think of you. With pranayama practice, you will become more emotionally stable. Be firm about what you want to say and then say it slowly/ confidently.

I will suggest simple yoga asanas and pranayama, if you feel slightly better, follow up with an experienced yoga teacher for further progress.

Yoga Asanas, Include these asanas in your yoga practice:

~ Suryanamaskar
~ Simhasana
~ Sarvanghasana

Pranayama Exercises

~ Rhythmic deep breathing
~ Alom Vilom
~ Bhramri
~ Kapalabhati

Thereafter while seated in sukhasana, vajrasana or padmasana, carry out "Aum" recitation.

In the end, take rest in shavasana for five to ten minutes.
