Post Operative Yoga Practice

I have been operated for an ovarian cyst and the uterus removal. Its been 3 months now. What yoga postures can I do in my present health condition?

Answer

It may take around 6 months for the healing to take place. You must take clearance from your doctor before starting yoga. It is advisable to wait for healing to complete before starting yoga poses.

After your doctor clears you to do yoga, be careful while doing poses which exert pressure on abdominal cavity or require forward bending.

Meanwhile you can start with the following yoga practice after seeking your doctor's concurrence.
~ Gentle pranayama like rhythmic breathing, ujjayi, anulom vilom and bhramri. Do not practice kapalabhati or bhastrika.
~ Practice meditation for 15-20 minutes.
(Practice pranayama and meditation while sitting in padmasana, vajrasana or sukhasana.)
~ After the practice rest in shavasana and do yoga nidra.

These simple exercises will help in speeding up the healing and provide you with the much needed rest and relaxation.

Hope this helps
