I am diabetic since one and a half years and also developed hypothyroidism due to that. I am facing skin pigmentation problem due to the same. My face looks patchy. I want to learn some yoga exercises which can be good for diabetics, thyroid and skin issues.
It is understood that you must be on medication for diabetes and hypothyroidism in consultation with your endocrinologist. It is very important for you to regularly take your medicine. In case you feel you are benefiting from yoga, you can consult your doctor to reduce the dosage.
From my personal experience, I can understand the pain and inconvenience associated with thyroid and parathyroid glands.
You need to understand that in addition to yoga, you have to take care of yourself. Keeping your weight under control should be the top priority, next important issues are strict diet control and to keep yourself in good spirits always to avoid stress.
~ Regular exercise, best exercise is yoga and also walk regularly (45 minutes to one hour)
~ Moderation in diet. It will be ideal if you can follow the principles of yoga diet and also avoid foods not recommended for diabetes.
~ Positive attitude will help to avoid emotional mood swings.
~ Self discipline and a firm resolve to get over your diseases.
Both hypothyroidism and diabetes are related to our endocrine system and yoga provides the ideal exercise to heal any imbalances in endocrine system.
Your yoga practice will improve your blood circulation. So yog and healthy diet will have a positive effect on your skin.
You can follow the yoga poses given in this generalised yoga sequence. It is best to learn yoga from an experienced teacher and then gradually buidl up your practice. For your case the asanas that can be beneficial are Surya Namskara (Sun Salutation Pose, Sarvanghasana, Paschimottasana (Seated Forward Bending Pose) or Janushirasana (Head to Knee Pose), Naukasana (Boat Pose), Pavamuktasana (Wind Relieving Pose), Uttanpadasana, Matsyasana, Mandukasana and Shavasana. Try these effective weight loss exercises too.
In pranayama, practice alom vilom for relaxation, ujjayi breath for thyroid and kapalabhati for weight loss.
