Inability To Take Full Satisfying Breath

by Jyotsna

I am Jyotsna and I am 42 years old. Though I am active and quite healthy, these days I feel shortage of breath and have a problem in getting full satisfying breath. Is it a problem major should I consult a doctor? Today I felt a slight pain on my left hand side of my chest too.

Please suggest me a pranayama to overcome this problem. I do not wish to go to an allopathic doctor.

Answer

Dear Jyotsna

1. If you are practicing yoga and still feel shortness of breath, you need to consult your doctor. It is better to carry out the Lab tests and clinical analysis to rule out any health issue.

2. There may be many causes of shortness of breath. In case it is due to improper breathing habits or anxiety yoga practice can definitely help. You can do other pranayama except kapalabhati, suryabhedi and bhastrika pranayama. Do not hold breath in any pranayama. Complement your yoga practice with some leisurely walking.

3. Yoga therapy is not a replacement to investigation and diagnosis capabilities of allopathic systems. So, please consult a doctor at the earliest.
