Drinking Water Before Pranayama

Hello, I am Poonam. First of all, I want to tell that your website is very very helpful. I would like to ask a question regarding pranayama. Is it ok to drink water before pranayama because I have a habit of drinking water of 2 glasses in the morning. I drink water and then after two minutes I start doing pranayama. Is it ok or do I have to include a gap between water and pranayama. I'll be thankful for your response.

Hello Poonam, thanks for your kind words. I am glad that you found the information on this site to be useful.

Pranayama should be done on empty stomach. Ideally you should do pranayama at least 30 minutes after drinking water. I suggest you drink your water as soon as you get up, then clear your bowels and freshen up for yoga. Some people even take a bath before yoga (not mandatory, depends on personal choice)

In hot weather, if you are too thirsty you can drink half a cup of water before starting pranayama.

Constipation Problem

Question 1. I drink one liter of copper vessel
water after waking up. Then after 10 minutes can I drink lemon honey water, 30 min before doing pranyama or asanas ?

Answer. You may drink one or two glass of water after wake up. Then you can drink lemon honey water, 30 minutes after that you can do yoga.


Question 2. Bathing after yoga is beneficial or before yoga?

Answer. If you can pass bowels and take bath before yoga, it is ideal. If not possible, you can do yoga before bath also.

Question 3. I also suffer from constipation from last one year. I am underweight also. So give me some important tips to get rid of my constipation problem permanently. Due to constipation my health become so dull.

Question 4. I am a beginner. I follow this yogasanas like downward dog pose, uttanpadasana, setubandhasana, shashankasana, mandukasana, vakrasana and two more asana and pranayama like kapalabhati, bhastrika, anulom vilom, bhramri and diaphragmatic breathing. Can I do all these yoga? Is it safe?

Question 5. Best time to do backbending and forward bending exercises. Can I do after meals?

Answer. Back bending and forward bending exercises are to be integrated in a yoga sequence. You need to learn from a yoga teacher the basic sequence based on your age and flexibility.

Question 6. Can I follow your yoga for beginners for reaping maximum benefits?

Answer. The content on this site is generic and for a normal healthy person with adequate flexibility. For specific requirements you need to seek guidance from a yoga teacher.

Doubt

Hi,

I have few queries

1. I do not get fresh immediately after waking up, so can I do pranayama without getting fresh (clearing of bowels).

2. If I drink water to get fresh then I have to wait for 20-30 minutes. How to utilize that time? Can I do exercise or asana during that time?

3. I eat garlic empty stomach after pranayama. So can I eat it immediately after pranayama?

4. And can I drink tea immediately after taking garlic? Or how much gap?

1. You can do yoga if the bowels are not clearing up early in the morning, unless there is chronic constipation.

2. You can do walking after drinking water.

3. You can take garlic with water on empty stomach after you get up.

4. Avoid tea in the morning. You may take tea approximately one hour after breakfast.

Nice website..Can I drink 1 glass of water 30 mins before doing kapalbhati pranayama? And can I take bath 30 mins after kapalbhati pranayam?

1. You can drink one glass or less water 30 minutes before kapalabhati if that is required.But it should not be a standard practice to mandatorily drink water before kpalabhati.

Water intake should be avoided for 1/2 hr before and after pranayama.

For me drinking water first thing in the morning helps in emptying the bowel. Bathing before yoga renders the exercises easier.

Kapalbhati for fertility

Hi. I am 28 and unmarried. I am not getting periods from last 8 months. I get periods when I take hormone medicine. Doctor said there is some hormonal imbalance or it is happening due to low ovarian reserve according to my age. Can kapalabhati help me in any way?

Kapalabhati alone is not recommended. Start a yoga practice for about an hour per day and learn to do kapalabhati under guidance.

I want to know that is water taking compulsory after pranayama

Please describe me taking water after pranayama is compulsory or not. If not then in which condition we should take water after pranayama.

After pranayama it is not compulsory to drink water. However, we must not drink or avoid drinking water 15-20 minutes after pranayama. If it is unavoidable, you can sip water any time you feel too thirsty for example in summers.

problem of passing gas with smell

hello,

I have a problem of gas and when Ipass gas there is a bad smell everytime. I have constipation problem. I drink 4-5 glasses of water in the morning .....and get fresh every day then also gas problem is there.

You can have your breakfast or drink water around 30 minutes after yoga. I suggest drink luke warm water in winters. You may take few sips of water whenever you feel too thirsty, no need to wait for 30 minutes.

Timing of pranayama

Thanks for running such nice website. I have a question. Once I get up in morning I drink around 4 glasses ( close to 1-liter) of water, then after how much time I should do Pranayama. Will Prayama help me to concentrate in my work ?

Already I do yoga for the last 5 years not continuouly but 2 or 4 days gap. Now I will do yoga regularly but this time, I feel some complication like BP, Heartburn, diarrhea etc so pls suggest continue do yoga or not?

Doubt Regarding Yoga

Hello,

I have to lose weight around 10kg. I drink distilled cow urine with water in the morning. I do Surya Namaskar 12 times then I do Kapalbhati , Anulom Vilom and Bhramari pranayama. Kindly advise me the steps of doing these. Should I drink cow urine before doing surya namaskar and pranayama? Kindly explain the whole system of doing this daily. After how long of doing this should I have breakfast and bath.

I am not sure about distilled cow urine, but I guess you are taking it empty stomach. Thereafter clear your bowels, take bath and do yoga in the sequence

Your website is very helpful for me as I come to know very much about yoga and it prove very helpful to me but I have a question. I am suffering from constipation so I wake up at 4 PM, do kapalabhati for 2 min because I am unable to repeat it for 5 or 10 mins then after half an hour I drink two glass of water and after 10 mins I do stretching exercises like stretching my hand and legs. So please tell me is it ok for me?

I have menstrual problem like abdomen swollen due to which I feel pain in my abdomen while doing kapalabhati. Kindly give me some best tips so I can get rid of constipation and belly fat.

You must stop doing kapalabhati as it cause you pain. It is ok to drink water and do some stretching exercises.

Have you learned to do yoga poses or pranayama? It is best to learn yoga in a class and then you can do yoga at home. In case you have further queries you can contact me.
