Hiccups and Burps Issue With Kapalabhati Pranayama

by Anonymous

After doing kapalabhati pranayama for few days, I am facing some problem in throat. Continuously getting Hiccups and Burps. Can you advise how can I get rid of this problem? Thank You

Answer

You should not get hiccups and burps while doing kapalabhati pranayama or after doing it. You must stop doing kapalabhati pranayama and seek advice of a yoga teacher in person or advice of a doctor if the condition persists.

Here are my suggestions:-
~ You have to check with a yoga teacher about your technique of doing kapalabhati pranayama. Maybe you are doing it too fast and more forcefully. I suggest reduce the number of repetitions and use less force while exhaling, it may help.

~ You must also include asanas as part of your yoga practice. Then your body is prepared for handling the flow of prana inside your body.
Practicing pranayama without doing any asana.

~ You must take adequate sleep.

~ Try to eat sattvik yogic diet and it may help.

~ You must not be too tired at the time of doing pranayama.

~ For example, if you are doing kapalabhati pranayama in the morning. Previous night have a very light and early dinner and have a comfortable sleep of 7-8 hours.

~ For a week do not do kapalabhati pranayama, but do your asanas and practice alom vilom pranayama and rhythmic breathing.

Also you can read this post, precautions for pranayama. If the problem of hiccups does not go away, stop doing kapalabhati and do it under supervision of a yoga teacher.

Hope this helps.
