Can Pranayama Cure Parathyroid Tumour

by Pinki
(Delhi, India)

I want to know whether parathyroid tumor can be cured by acupressure therapy and pranayama.

Answer
Hello Pinki,

I know from my personal experience that acupressure therapy cannot cure parathyroid tumour. It can only provide temporary relief from typical symptoms like body ache and lethargy.

Similarly, pranayama practice cannot cure parathyroid tumour.

A person suffering from parathyroid tumour should immediately consult an endocrinologist and get operated by surgeon who is experienced in this particular surgery. It will also depend whether only one or more of the four parathyroid glands are affected and how high is PTH harmone.

Once a person recovers after the surgery, doing yoga asanas and pranayama can definitely help to lead a better life and avoid any further health problem.

Hope this helps.

Solution?
by: Anonymous

But one parathyroid left after operation in 2001 for primary hyperparathyroidism (adenoma) and for papillary thyroid cancer, also 2001. Now since 2013 again PHPT.
Have waited to have operation because that means going Hypoparathyroid. But I am feeling very bad, so will have to go ahead with it, although they cannot locate the adenoma and the throat has been cut twice, it is a difficult operation. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Editors Note
I am sorry to know about your health issues. Doctor must have done ultrasound or nuclear scan.

I don't know where you live. Doctors at PGI Chandigarh India were excellent when I got operated there for parathyroid adenoma.

Yoga practice can help you a lot. You can start yoga after recovering from the surgery.

Hope it helps

Honest and straightforward explanation
by: Anonymous

Thank you for the good advice. There's are lots of alternative practitioners who have patients believe there is a way of curing primary hyperparthyroidism other than surgery. There is NOT, really is NOT. Operation alas is the way to solve it. Do not let yourselves be fooled and drained of your money by those who claim they can! Some are real frauds. Thank you for this website.

Cost
by: Anonymous

How much did it cost?

Editors Note
Since PGI, Chandigarh is a Government Institution, total expenditure 13 years back was approx. 80,000 including costs of all tests, nuclear scans and surgery.

More than the cost it is essential to get operated from am experienced surgeon as this surgery is not so common. Please let me know if you have any further query.. All the best.

Hope this helps

Hey.. Can you tell me in how many months your scar became invisible? Is there any gel/cream that you hav used for the scar?

Editors Note
I did not use any cream or gel. It all depends on the cut made by surgeon. After a month of surgery, my scar was barely noticeable. Now nobody can make it out.

Hope it helps.

Diagnosis Before Surgery
by: pinki

I want to know how many days before surgery you got admitted in hospital? If any test like scan, diagnostic test were done for you when you were in hospital?? What was your PTH and calcium level before surgery? How many glands were involved?? What was the size of adenoma?? How you got to know about your disease if there was any problem before surgery??

Editor's Note

1. Please remember that all cases are different and will need treatment as recommended by the doctor.

2. I followed up as an OPD patient, undergone ultrasound, bone scan etc and got admitted 3-4 days before surgery.

3. Only one of the parathyroid glands was affected, adenoma was about 10 grams. PTH levels were more than 1100.

4. My problems before surgery were severe Ankylosing Spondylitis and cervical spondylitis and lethargy, body pains, irritability, loss of memory, joint pains, frequent urination, formation of kidney stones etc.

Hope this helps..

Hi Daljit

I want to know for how many days you were in the hospital for surgery?

If you have suffered any problem after surgery? And how is your scar mark??

Editor's Note

I got operated on 8 Dec and got discharge from hospital on 13th Dec to attend my sister's marriage on 14th Dec.

There are no major problems post surgery, but one has to follow up with the doctor for medicine and routine check ups. My advice will be to change to an active lifestyle and follow doctors advice with respect to medicine and routine check ups. Yoga practice has helped me to stay fit.

As you asked about my scar, it is hardly noticeable unless somebody makes special efforts to locate it.

Hope this helps.

Parathyroid
by: Jagriti

Hello

I am Jagriti from Ambala. My mother is suffering from parathyroid, diagnosed from PGI Chandigarh. I want to know is surgery the only way to cure this disease> I mean medicines can't help in this??

Editor's Note
Your doctor can better advise if there is any other option than surgery. Do not wait too long, it is better to get operated and reclaim your health and happiness.

Search for a Surgeon!!
by: pinki

Hello Daljit.

Thanks for your suggestion. It would be a great help for me if u tell about an experienced surgeon who has done surgery of this.

Pinki

Editor's Note

Hello Pinki

I got operated at PGI, Chandigarh in Dec 2003 and the Surgeon was Dr Sudhanshu Behera. You can try surgery at PGI Chandigarh or AIIMS New Delhi or any reputed private hospital. Idea is to get operated where doctors have experience on this type of surgery. Also, please consult your endocrinologist in this regard to get the best professional advice.

Wishing you all the best for the surgery and speedy recovery.

Warm regards
Daljit
